The color chart above is an illustration of a Bagua map, pronounced Ba-gwa. It is used in feng shui to find out which part of your home or office correlates with a particular situation in your life. There are 5 elements of feng shui in addition to the colors.
The Five elements of feng shui are: Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood.
Fire elements in the rear middle.
Earth elements in the center.
Metal elements in the middle right.
Water elements in the front middle.
Wood elements in the middle left.
Before I get carried away on the five elements of feng shui I just wanted to clarify for you that elements are also known as objects. Meaning that, when we say wood elements, they refer to wooden furniture, wooden ducks, wood picture frames, anything made of wood. Metal elements, those are products or items made of metal. Fire elements are things like fireplaces, red flowers, a red box or even a red throw pillow. Those are things with red in them and are considered to be part of the feng shui color fire elements. The same goes for the Water and Earth elements. These are items or products that have water characteristics such as those little water fountains you plug into the outlets and put on your table, or a fish tank, things like that. Earth elements could be rocks, plants, pictures of your lawn, a small bonsai tree, anything that deals with the earth. Those are elements, and above I have given you examples of the elements.
One thing to keep in mind, put these elements in their prospective places so that they can help you with the topics that are listed in the map.
Now, back to the feng shui colors. They are:
1) yellow, gold and earth tones
2) blues and greens
3) blues, reds and purples
4) red
5) reds, pinks and white
6) white and pastels
7) white, grays and black
8) black and dark tones
9) black, blues and some greens

When adding these colors to your living or office spaces you will be able to adjust your surroundings to maximize greater health and productivity. In addition to improving the quality of your life. This map can be used for individual rooms as well.
For instance, you will notice in the Center of the bagua map are the colors yellow, gold and earth tone colors. These serve as your center balance point and they touch the other areas of your life. A good starting point to add balance into your life. A lot of interior spaces have a ceiling fan or light fixture in the center location of the room that has shades of gold on it. If you have walking room in the center area, perhaps put a small table there with something gold or yellow on it. If you have no ceiling fan or light fixture in the center of the space you could hang something from the ceiling with a shade of gold, yellow or earth tone.
Don’t get this map confused with idolizing the color gold or yellow, or any of the other colors we are going to talk about. These are just feng shui principles that use color to help improve your well being and quality of life, think of them as feng shui tools, not an idol.
The next area of color we are going to briefly touch on revolves around health and family. These are your shades of green and blue. Green calms and soothes the mind, lowers blood pressure and relaxes the nervous system. Green is easy on the eye and can improve vision.
Green is the feng shui color of fresh energy and new beginnings. Does anybody remember the Avocado green 60s and 70s refrigerators? Did that occur to you as being a feng shui color? Those were the days, my friend. Olive green is another feng shui color that can promote peace, health, physical healing and fertility. It is a calming, refreshing color. People waiting to appear on TV sit in “green rooms” to relax.
How the color green helps your family life. It strengthen the hope, longevity and vitality of family relationships. It signifies growth and renewal. The family bagua is the wood element of the feng shui bagua map and it is enhanced by the color green. Placing green plants and hanging wood framed photos in this area will greatly enhance family relationships.
Green is life. Abundant in nature, health and environment. The military uses the color green. Why do you suppose that they strive to be a close knit family within their own?
On the flip side, green is jealousy or envy (green-eyed monster) and inexperience.
Blue is a refreshing feng shui color. It spans the gentle aqua blue to the blue-green of the ocean. In feng shui we associate blue with the sky and the waters. Blue is the color of loyalty and faith and promotes protection within the family. Blue foods can also reduce blood pressure and calms the nervous system. Blueberries have beneficial colors within our immune system.
Purple is also favored as a recommended color since it symbolizes wealthy ideals, including truth and love. It is also the color of successive thinkers such as philosophers, dreamers, writers, and visionaries. Painting your office in variations of purple can increase creativity and bring on favorable results.
Gray is suppose to fade into the rooms background and causes other colors to stand out prominently. Feng Shui decorators always look for balance and harmony in the decor by using equal yin and yang. Gray is neutral, neither yin or yang. It represents a combining of the two colors.
Black symbolizes helpfulness and desire to travel. It is used to promote strength, power and skill. Considered a water element color, it also develops strength and emotional protection. It is important to use black more as an accessory, as it can be too overwhelming and negative in large amounts.
Brown symbolizes reliability and faithfulness. This earthy yin color should be used in small quantifies around the home. Too much brown is depressive.
Red is very popular in feng shui decor. This good luck color awakens the energies in the room. Too much red in interior decorations causes hot tempers to flare and emotional outburst.
In closing, the Colors of Feng Shui can have a great impact in our lives when used in a particular area of our homes or offices. By following the map and using the recommended colors from the area’s shown on the map. It will greatly enhance those situations that are shown on the feng shui bagua map. Situations and concerns that are in everyone of us. Be careful not-to-over-do-it with these colors. The energy can be dissipated if you over do it. For example, black represents power, authority and respect, but TOO MUCH black signals despair and doom. Be subtle, it is more effective that way.
